Two major universities in Chicago include the University of Chicago (UoC) (located in the South Side region) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) (located in the West Side region).
The University of Chicago contains a number of buildings showcasing elegant old architecture, and the surrounding residential areas are filled with trees, with most houses overgrown with vines and other foliage, giving the area a very forest-like feel.
On the edge of the campus is the Robie House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and renowned as a forerunner of modernism in architecture. What is amazing is this building, although seemingly designed and built just recently, was actually designed in 1908 and completed in 1910.
The University of Illinois at Chicago contains a distinctly West and East side. The West side contains a medical district with facilities dedicated to medicine and hospitals. The East side contains the more typical university campus.
