San Francisco 2nd Pass

Second trip to SF. Sold at the warm weather and palm trees. Having a bike (during 2nd half of trip) was really helpful. It really enhances your ability to see so many things in a small amount of time. It strikes a balance between using a car and walking as it gives you the ability move quickly yet also not so fast that you can’t absorb the environment as you go. you can start/stop whenever/wherever you want, and parking is everywhere. Oh and getting some exercise is certainly not a bad thing.

Sat Nov 17
Left Vancouver in the afternoon and reached SF around 3:30pm, dinner at Pho Vi Hoa in Los Altos

Sun Nov 18
Dim sum at Dol Ho (located in the heart of Chinatown), spent 3+ hrs in Alcatraz, dinner at Boudin (place with a warehouse-like bakery near the Wharf)

Mon Nov 19
Took a nice walk through NW Los Altos and SE Palo Alto. There were some good trails and the residential areas were quite peaceful.

Tues Nov 20
Muni ride to Sunset District, then long walk north to the Legion of Honor, then another long walk east then south into Golden Gate park to De Young. Dinner at Chow (in Castro district).

Wed Nov 21
Walked around South Beach and Rincon Hill areas, then to Ferry Marketplace (similar to Granville Island market), lunch at Boccalone (specializes in Italian meats), then headed north to Fisherman’s Wharf. Got a reply from bike seller; headed to Millbrae to pick it up. Headed back into SF and got off at the 22nd Street station and rode my new (used) bike through the Mission and Castro district. Grabbed a bike lock from REI in SOMA, then dinner at So.

Thurs Nov 22
Rode north from King St station, then NW until Lombard St. Lunch at Boulange de Polk (nice french bistro). Rode north to the waterfront and Crissy Field along Marina Blvd then to Palace of Fine Arts. Continued west to Fort Point, then up to Golden Gate Bridge. Rode across to the edge of Sausalito before turning around. Then back to Palace of Fine Arts and south through Cow Hollow, Pacific Heights (crazy hills to go through; all up hill), Japantown, and Alamo Square.

Fri Nov 23
Black Friday! Unfortunately nothing I really needed. Headed up to mini-mall in Mountain View (had Bestbuy, REI, etc). Rode west through Palo Alto (very nice residential areas – Professorville?). Lunch at Pluto’s (very cool custom sandwich place), then to Stanford. Dinner at The Counter (custom burger place).

Sat Nov 24
Walked from Los Altos to downtown Mountain View (Castro Street), lunch at Queen House, Caltrain to SFO for 7pm flight
